Series of Movements & Interactions

I create sculptures that sit at the intersection of art and design with an emphasis on haptic perception. In Untitled (bed throw), I weave together the utilitarian and the uncanny by displaying a surreal self-sustaining sculpture that is simultaneously an object used for warmth, comfort, and play. The work evokes the materiality of the body through a thin sheet of latex marked with abstractions of skin-tone colors. Human gray hair is stitched into the outer boundary – like the soft fringe of a blanket. It drapes over three interlocking wooden stakes with sharp tips, like a defense system viewers have to cautiously approach. The piece rests against a wall while standing on two fine points, a delicate balance of power and fragility.

A Series of Movements and Interactions (2018-present), is set in a domestic environment where participants fluctuate between pedestrian and repetitive gestures. By directing participants to intuitively respond to the shapes and contour of each object with their body, the performances (and videos) contemplate the subjectivity of the haptic and its relationship to memory.

The performance occurred in conjunction with the solo exhibit Come Undone at Bed & Breakfast, Los Angeles.
